I named something wrong and had to undo it

I wanted a way to reach people who've been
thinking about starting a business for years and
keep not doing it. That's a real group. Some of
them are older than they thought they'd be when
they finally did this. I wanted them to see
themselves on my site.

So I decided to rename my main session "The Jump."

Which would have broken it. Because that same
session is also for people already running
something — the ones who are stuck, or not getting
enough clients. They jumped years ago. Calling
their session The Jump tells them it isn't for
them.

One name, doing two incompatible jobs.

The fix was smaller than the mistake: make The
Jump a door, not the product. Now there are four
ways in — four sentences in someone's own words —
and they all lead to the same session behind them.

The lesson isn't about naming. It's that I almost
solved a real problem by creating a bigger one,
and the only reason I didn't is that I said it out
loud before I built it.
