Hi, I'm Alan. I help people think it through properly — so they make the right moves, not the expensive ones. One-on-one. No frameworks. No proposals. Just an honest conversation.
They fail from decisions made too early, too fast, or with the wrong assumptions. That's what I'm here for.
You've seen what AI can do for other businesses. You haven't figured out what's actually worth doing in yours, versus what's just noise. One session — your business, practical tools, clear priorities. No jargon, no hype.

Subscribe freeI'm not a consultant, and I'm not a coach. Think of me as the person you call before you make the big decision — not the person you hire to make it for you.
I'm the cardiologist, not the surgeon. I diagnose. I hand the thinking back to you in writing. I don't execute — that's not false modesty, it's the whole point. You need someone who can see the situation clearly without needing to be the hero of it.
I built and ran platforms, marketplaces, and staffing businesses before this. I made the expensive mistakes so I could learn what actually matters early on. I'm still building — ClearShift and DNA are both mine, running alongside Rework right now. I'm not teaching from the sidelines. I'm in it, same as you.
Van Gogh painted for people who weren't born yet. Beethoven kept composing after he went deaf, for no one but himself.
That's the kind of success I'm building toward — work that matters because it's true, not because it's loud. If that sounds like the kind of person you want in your corner, we'll get along.
A business should create freedom, not pressure.
People need guidance, not more information.
The conventional path isn't the only path.
Good early decisions matter more than hard work later.
Whether you're about to take the jump, stuck in the middle of building, or just need clarity on a single decision — reach out. No hard sell, no proposal. Just a conversation.
I've spent most of my life not quite fitting the shape I was told to fit. Rework is what I built once I stopped trying to.
I started as a software engineer — writing code, building systems, leading development teams. I moved into UX and service design, then into running departments, leading people, watching smart, capable teams make expensive decisions early on because nobody had helped them think clearly first.
I was good at the conventional path. I climbed it. It still never quite fit — the pace, the politics, the ceiling I could see coming. So I left, and I built my own things instead: platforms, marketplaces, staffing, connections. I got a lot of it wrong before I understood what I was actually doing.
I'm not someone who figured this out and then went to go teach it from the outside. I'm still building — ClearShift and DNA are both running right now, alongside Rework, alongside my own life outside of work. When I sit with you, it's not theory. It's someone who's in it too.
I'm the cardiologist, not the surgeon. I diagnose. I hand the thinking back to you, in writing, and you decide what to do with it. I don't execute — not because I can't, but because the work I actually want is the thinking, not the performing. If that sounds like a strange way to run a business, it is. It's also the only way I've found that doesn't feel like a job I didn't agree to.
I'm based in Cape Town but work globally. The problems I help with don't have a geography.
Some people are built for the room, the title, the ladder. I never was, and I don't think you are either, or you wouldn't be reading this.
I don't say that as a complaint. I've made peace with the fact that I can't really do it the other way — I've tried, more than once, and it never lasted. That's not a flaw to fix. It's just what's true, and building around what's true instead of fighting it is most of what Rework actually is.
I want a life with purpose in it, not just output. Comfortable, free, mine — not big for the sake of big, not loud for the sake of being seen. Work that matters because it's honest, not because it performs well.
Rework is me trying to build that, in the open, and helping other people building the same thing for themselves — quietly, without needing to be the loudest person in the room to prove it was worth doing.
These aren't platitudes. They're the things I've learned the hard way — and the lens through which every conversation is had.
Most businesses are overcomplicated.
The best ones are simple, focused, and built around what actually matters.
Good early decisions beat hard work later.
Most founders don't fail from effort — they fail from poor assumptions made at the start.
A business should create freedom, not pressure.
If it owns you instead of the other way around, something's wrong.
Technology is a tool, not an identity.
AI is changing how small businesses operate. But only if it's applied to real problems, in practical ways, without the jargon. That's the only way I use it — and the only way I recommend it.
People need guidance, not more information.
The internet has enough content. What most founders need is clarity and a second mind.
The conventional path isn't the only path.
School, job, pension — it works for some. But for others, there's a different way to build a life.
The safe road was there. I was good at it. I even climbed it for a while. It never fit, and I stopped pretending it would.
