Why my writing moved off Substack

Short posts like this one used to live on Substack
Notes. From today they live here, on my own site.

The newsletter isn't moving. Building Smarter
still goes out every Tuesday, still on Substack,
because email is the one thing where owning the
list actually matters and Substack does that part
well.

But the day-to-day stuff — what I'm working on,
what I got wrong, the parts that don't feel like
winning — that belongs somewhere I own outright.

Two reasons.

The first is practical. Platforms change their
minds. Reach gets throttled, feeds get reordered,
and one day the thing you built your audience on
decides to show them something else. My own site
can't do that to me.

The second is that this is meant to be a body of
work, not a feed. Posts that add up over time,
searchable, in one place, still here in five
years. That's harder to feel on a platform where
everything scrolls past and disappears.

So this is home now. Rougher than the newsletter,
more often, less polished.

That's the point.
